Important notice
Fillsmith is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We are a scrivener service: we translate questions on government forms into your language and write your answers onto the form.
We do not file forms with USCIS for you. You print the form, sign it by hand, and mail it yourself.
Nothing on this site is legal advice. Nothing we send by email is legal advice. If you need legal advice, please consult a licensed attorney.
Warning about notarios
In the United States, a "notario público" is not the same as a notario in Mexico or other Latin American countries. A U.S. notary public is NOT a lawyer.
If someone calls themselves a notario and charges hundreds or thousands of dollars to help with immigration paperwork, they may be breaking the law. Several states (CA, IL, NY, TX, FL, MA, NV, MN) have specific laws against unauthorized practice of immigration law.
If you've been charged a large fee by a notario, you may be able to report them to your state's Attorney General.
